Naturopathic medicine is now easily reached in southwest Colorado. Dr. Celeste Aurorean—Dr. Celeste, as her patients call her—is open for business in a newly renovated office located on the second floor of the Spruce Tree Coffee House in downtown Cortez.

At first it may seem like a slightly unorthodox location for a professional diagnostic and examination room. But the walk up a flight of stairs takes a patient graciously above the pleasant aroma of coffee and the calming resonance of customer conversations into the fresh, inviting welcome of her specialized medical office.

Nestled inside the building near the middle branches of the giant, thriving spruce tree outside the second story windows, it conveys confidence, comfort and a sense of good health, well-being and knowledgeable care for the client.
Naturopathic medicine provides a wide variety of treatment options unavailable to conventional physicians. It continues to be a growing and evolving field serving the burgeoning need for competent natural health care for more than 83 million Americans seeking qualified physicians practicing non-conventional medicine.
According to Dr. Celeste, “Naturopathic medicine is a patient-centered primary approach that uses natural means to restore and optimize health. It is a distinct system of health care—an art, science, philosophy and practice of diagnosing, treating and preventing disease.”
Six principles guide the practice: prevention; physician as teacher; treat the whole person; first do no harm; identify and treat the cause; and the healing power of nature.
Dr. Celeste, Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, ND, is a graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, located in Portland, Oregon. Graduates complete a rigorous four-year, accredited course of study. It prepares candidates for state-licensing examinations and the general practice as naturopathic primary care physicians. It is the oldest naturopathic college in North America.
Jill Stansbury, ND, Botanical Medicine, and a graduate of NCNM, encourages naturopathic clientele to consider how, “it is not only medicine for people, but it is also medicine for the living planet.”
The public is invited to attend an open house to meet Dr. Celeste. The catered event is an opportunity to learn more about naturopathic medicine. Other health care providers in the community will also be available to discuss their practices with guests.
Friday, February 20, 5 – 7 PM at the Spruce Tree Coffee House, 318 East Main Street, Cortez. For more information call: 970-739-8367
